We do the homework so you don’t have to. From farm practices to packaging and transport and continual supplier and product reviews we assess every step from harvest to home to ensure all products align with our values and we are always stocking products of exceptional quality.
When we make the decision to work with a supplier, they need to be willing to review their practices to reduce any unnecessary packaging. We are proud to say that we have been a positive influence on many within our supply chain and the industry overall.
The total range at The Source Bulk Foods includes over 1000 products . We aim to stock a wide variety of speciality and every day products. We study health trends, we review all manet of lifestyles and are always on the search for new suppliers and interesting healthy and sustainable products. Every product that enters our stores is carefully taste tested, considered, researched and every ingredient vetted to make sure it meets our strict Source quality and ethics standards.

How We Guarantee Quality
- Taste and food testing – We receive and forward samples to various employees to survey each product and provide a wide variation of opinions on the quality and taste of each item to ensure exceptional taste, quality and freshness. We strive to be above and beyond any other food retailer when it comes to health, quality, freshness and taste.
- Validation claims – we ensure all product claims such as source of dietary fibre, source of protein meet the requirements set out by the Australian governing body – Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) and work with our suppliers to ensure we have the relevant certification for specific claims. We mandate annual confirmation or reporting of any changes as they occur.
- Prioritising Australian – The Source supply team works on an “Australia First” approach. Wherever possible we source products grown or made in Australia to support local farmers and the Australian economy as well as reduce food miles. Currently over 70% of the food sold at The Source is produced or grown in Australia.
- Supporting local businesses – we have a local product initiative so that our stores can support local, small businesses by stocking unique products to the region/area which lets us supply unique and speciality products.
- Ongoing product review – we regularly review our product range to determine if a better-quality product is available to our customers. Whether that be switching an imported product to an Australian one, replacing a confectionery line that contains artificial colours and/or flavours with a NAFNAC (no artificial flavours, no artificial colours) alternative or changing a conventionally grown product to an organically grown one.
- Exclusive products – we work closely with our suppliers to create or redevelop products to reduce costs for our customers while maintaining premium quality.
- Packaging reduction – we work with new and existing suppliers to ask “what can we do better?” and aim to eliminate unnecessary packaging or create bespoke packaging options for our stores to receive products with earth-conscious packaging.
- Clean ingredient declarations – only real, natural ingredients make the cut. We review ingredient declarations against the permitted Australian food additives guidelines to ensure we do not stock products with any prohibited preservatives, processing aids or additives.
- Modern slavery compliance – we carefully vet suppliers to ensure ethical sourcing, rejecting products or ingredients at risk of exploitation.
- Fair pricing – whilst we are very considerate of customer pricing, we also pay suppliers a fair price so they can continue producing high-quality products and innovate sustainably. At The Source we made the decision long ago that we wouldn’t do business at anyone else’s expense, we would support Australian industry and support natural or organic products when available.
- Transparent labelling and pricing – all Source bins display allergens, ingredients, origin, nutrition, batch number and best-before date. Pricing is per kilogram or litre so you only pay for what you need.
