Looking for unique and easy DIY projects for the kids? Here’s two of our go-to activities to prevent boredom meltdowns and avoid too much screen-time. Perfect for these school holidays!
  • HOMEMADE PLAYDOH

Playdoh is a beautiful way to increase your little one’s awareness of shapes, colours and textures. It can help them to expand their imagination, boost creativity and enjoy play. This recipe is made from natural ingredients – most of which you can find at your local Source Bulk Foods – and is safe for kids.

    Makes: 1 large ball

    1 cup plain flour

    1 cup water

    2 tsp cream of tarter

    1/3 cup salt

    1 tbs vegetable oil

Food colouring of choice, preferably natural food colouring

Mix all ingredients except food colouring in a saucepan.

Cook on low heat, stirring. Once mix begins to thicken, add food colouring.

Continue stirring until mixture is thicker and starts to gather on the spoon.

Remove and pour onto baking paper or a plate to cool for 30 minutes.

Knead for a few seconds, then time to play!
Repeat recipe to make different colours.

Store in an airtight container in the fridge.

  • CITRUS BATH BOMBS

These beautiful bath bombs offer a win-win situation for you – your kids will jump willingly into the bath and come out smelling delicious! Plus, they make a wonderful gift for grandmothers, babysitters or friends.

    ½ cup potato starch

    ½ cup citric acid

    ½ cup Epsom salt

    1 cup bi-carb soda

    1 tbs dried orange peel

    8-10 drops orange essential oil

    2½ tbs coconut oil, melted

    1 tbsp water

Bath bomb moulds (or you can use ice cube tray)

In a large bowl, combine potato starch, citric acid, Epsom salt, bi-carb soda and dried orange peel. Whisk or stir well.

In a small bowl, whisk together essential oil, coconut oil and water.

Very slowly, add the oil mixture to the dry mixture. Try not to fizz the ingredients together. Mix well.

Transfer mix to bath bomb moulds or ice cube tray.

Allow bath bombs to dry and set for at least 24 hours.

    When dry, remove from moulds.

To use the beautiful citrus bath bomb, drop it in water and watch it fizz!

    Store in an airtight container.

Tip: to make these bath bombs extra special, press dome dried flowers into the moulds before letting them set.
